An Eternal Habitation
Proverbs 21:23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
The soul is the portion of our existence which is purposed for eternity, the spirit is the portion which is purposed for practical living in this life. It appears that 75% of humanity is focused on self-propitiated living in this life.
The other 25% have our soul's best interest in mind as we seek out the proper way to serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The life of Jesus exemplifies the true nature of this proverb:
John 19:10-11
Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
By doing this, Jesus gave us an example of the tongue's power to keep the eternal habitation of our soul from trouble. Not the crucifying of the flesh, more precisely, the affirmation of our soul's place in his kingdom! When wicked men and seducers increase and our livelihood is threatened, take no fear in their threats, keep your tongue in check and give God the authority to exercise power over them and keep the habitation of your soul, secure in Jesus.
